Wed Oct 30 07:57:58 UTC 2024: ## Bangladesh Spinner Taijul Islam Eyes Test Captaincy Amid Shanto’s Rumored Resignation
**Chittagong, Oct 28:** Bangladesh left-arm spinner Taijul Islam has expressed his readiness to take on the Test captaincy role, amidst speculation surrounding Najmul Hossain Shanto’s potential resignation.
While Taijul claims to be unaware of Shanto’s decision to step down after the ongoing Test series against South Africa, he has positioned himself as a potential successor in the red-ball format.
“I haven’t heard anything about Najmul quitting captaincy,” Taijul told reporters at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. “But having played for 10 years, I’m fully prepared for captaincy.”
The 32-year-old veteran emphasized the importance of team unity, acknowledging that outside events may affect individual players while others maintain composure. “This is a team game,” he said. “The most important thing is that the team remains in good condition.”
Looking ahead to the crucial second Test against South Africa, Taijul stressed the need for a win to level the series after the visitors’ victory in the opening match. He emphasized the team’s commitment to playing as a unit.
“Our goal remains the same: we’ll play to win,” he said. “We’ll do our best to win.”
Taijul also expressed confidence in the team’s spin bowling attack, highlighting the potential of Nayeem Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz. “We have got high quality spinners in our possession,” he said, adding that he is willing to share his knowledge with the younger players.
Shanto’s decision to step down has not yet been officially confirmed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board. However, the possibility of a leadership change has sparked discussion in the cricket community.
