Wed Oct 30 07:58:00 UTC 2024: ## Bangladesh Captain Najmul Hossain Steps Down, Future Leadership Uncertain
**DHAKA** – Bangladesh’s all-format captain, Najmul Hossain, is set to relinquish his captaincy role after the conclusion of the ongoing Test series against South Africa.
Najmul, appointed captain in February 2024 for a one-year term, informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) of his decision, citing personal reasons. While the BCB President, currently abroad, is yet to approve the resignation, sources within the board confirm the development.
The decision comes after a period of scrutiny surrounding Najmul’s captaincy following a prolonged lean patch. He had previously indicated a desire to step down from the T20 captaincy after the 2024 T20 World Cup, but later changed his mind before ultimately deciding to relinquish all three formats.
While a top BCB director is reportedly attempting to persuade Najmul to reconsider, his decision seems firm. The BCB is now considering potential replacements, with Mehidy Hasan possibly taking the helm for Test and ODI formats, while Towhid Hridoy could lead the T20 side.
Najmul’s captaincy tenure saw mixed results, with three Test series wins and six losses, a maiden Test series victory over Pakistan, and a 3-6 win-loss record in ODIs. He led Bangladesh in 24 T20Is, securing 10 wins.
The BCB is expected to make a formal announcement regarding the captaincy change in the coming weeks.
