Wed Oct 30 05:19:07 UTC 2024: ## Kali Chaudas 2024: Celebrate the Victory of Good Over Evil with Special Puja
**New Delhi, October 26, 2024:** Kali Chaudas, also known as Narak Chaturdashi or Roop Chaturdashi, will be celebrated on **October 31, 2024**, a day before Diwali. This festival commemorates the victory of Lord Krishna over the demon Narakasura, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.
According to the Hindu calendar, the Amavasya tithi (new moon) begins at 3:52 PM on October 31st and ends at 6:16 PM on November 1st. The puja dedicated to Goddess Kali is performed during the Nishita Kaal, making October 31st the day for the celebration.
**Puja Vidhi:** The ritual begins with an auspicious bath (abhyanga snan) to cleanse oneself before the worship. Devotees then set up a red cloth-covered platform for the idol or image of Goddess Kali. A lamp is lit followed by offerings of fruits, flowers, kumkum, turmeric, camphor, coconut, and prasad. The puja concludes with the chanting of Kali Chalisa and mantras.
**Significance:** Kali Chaudas holds immense religious significance as it is believed that performing the puja with devotion brings relief from mental and physical suffering, attracting positive energy. It is also considered an auspicious day for achieving victory over enemies and for Tantric practitioners to perform powerful Maha Kali Sadhana.
**Story behind Kali Chaudas:** As per legend, Narakasura, a demon king, terrorized the world by capturing 16,000 princesses and numerous sages. Lord Krishna, upon hearing their pleas for help, defeated the demon, freeing the captives. The victory was celebrated with lamps and diyas, marking the origin of this tradition.
