**New Delhi, October 30, 2024:** Gold and silver prices surged in India on Wednesday, ahead of Diwali, with demand increasing during Dhanteras. The Indian Bullion Jewelers Association (IBJA) website reported that 10 grams of 24-carat gold reached Rs. 79,681, while silver hit Rs. 98,340 per kilogram.
The increase in prices comes as people traditionally purchase gold and silver during Dhanteras, believed to bring prosperity. However, buyers are advised to be cautious and ensure the purity of the gold they purchase. Hallmarks on jewelry indicate the purity of the gold, with 999 signifying 99.9% purity, 916 for 91.6% purity, and so on.
Jewellery typically uses 22-carat gold, which is 91.6% pure. However, some unscrupulous sellers may dilute the gold content, so buyers should always check the hallmark and purchase from reputable sellers.
