Tue Oct 29 20:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Biden Casts Early Ballot, Endorses Historic Candidates in Delaware
WILMINGTON, DELAWARE – Former President Joe Biden cast an early ballot in Delaware on Monday, marking a bittersweet moment for the 80-year-old, who decided not to seek re-election in July due to health concerns and concerns about his chances of defeating former President Donald Trump.
Biden, who has been involved in election seasons for most of his adult life, patiently waited in line for about 40 minutes to vote at a state election office, chatting with voters and even helping an older woman in a wheelchair. He then cast his ballot behind a black drape, marking the end of another election cycle for him.
However, Biden’s focus has shifted to supporting a new generation of Democrats vying for historic victories in Delaware. He endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, who is seeking to become the first Black woman and first person of South Asian descent to be elected president. Additionally, Biden endorsed Democratic Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester, who is running for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by retiring Senator Tom Carper. Blunt Rochester aims to become Delaware’s first Black woman to serve in the U.S. Senate.
Another candidate Biden is supporting is State Senator Sarah McBride, who is vying to become the first openly transgender member of the U.S. House. McBride, a longtime friend of the Biden family, has worked for both President Barack Obama and the late Beau Biden.
Biden’s support for these candidates signals a shift in focus for the former president, who has spent decades in public service. He is now focused on paving the way for a new generation of leaders. Early voting in Delaware began on Saturday.
