Tue Oct 29 19:55:16 UTC 2024: ## Augsburg Triumphs in DfB Pokal Thriller, Claude-Maurice Leads the Way
Augsburg booked their place in the DfB Pokal last 16 with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over a determined Schalke side on Tuesday. The match was a thrilling affair, with both sides giving it their all.
The decisive moment came in the 26th minute when Alexis Claude-Maurice put Augsburg ahead. The Frenchman received a well-timed pass from Onyeka and fired a shot that took a lucky bounce over the outstretched hands of Schalke goalkeeper Heekeren.
Schalke stepped up their efforts in the second half, with Murkin coming close to equalising but being denied by Augsburg goalkeeper Finn Dahmen. The Royal Blues were then undone by an offside goal from Karaman in the 70th minute.
Augsburg secured victory in the 87th minute through a fortuitous strike from Arne Meier, who caught Schalke’s Felipe Sanchez in the wall and wrong-footed Heekeren. Samuel Essende added a late third goal, although it was also ruled offside, but without VAR in operation, the goal stood.
Meanwhile, Regionalliga Südwest side Kickers Offenbach’s cup hopes were dashed by a strong second-half performance from Karlsruhe. Budu Zivzivadze put Karlsruhe ahead in the 61st minute, and Marcel Beifuß sealed the victory in the 72nd minute with a powerful finish.
