Tue Oct 29 10:12:07 UTC 2024: ## Matthew Perry’s Family Seeks Justice and Legacy After Actor’s Death

**LOS ANGELES** – One year after the tragic death of beloved actor Matthew Perry, his family is speaking out about the loss and the ongoing legal proceedings against those who allegedly contributed to his fatal overdose. Perry, best known for his role as Chandler Bing on the hit sitcom “Friends,” was found unresponsive in his home on October 28, 2023. The medical examiner later ruled his death an accident caused by acute ketamine intoxication.

Five individuals have been charged in connection to the actor’s death. Among them is Dr. Mark Chavez, who has pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute ketamine. He has agreed to cooperate with authorities as they pursue more serious charges against Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who maintains his innocence.

Other suspects include Jasveen Sangha, allegedly the “ketamine queen” who supplied the drug, and Perry’s assistant Kenneth Iwamasa and acquaintance, both of whom have also pleaded guilty. Iwamasa is accused of injecting Perry with ketamine, while the acquaintance is charged with distributing the drug.

In a recent interview with “Today,” Perry’s mother, Suzanne Morrison, and stepfather, Dateline NBC correspondent Keith Morrison, expressed their satisfaction with the indictments. They believe these charges send a strong message to those involved in the drug trade that accountability will be pursued.

“What I’m hoping — and I think the agencies that got involved in this are hoping — [is] that people who have put themselves in the business of supplying people with the drugs that will kill them, that they are now on notice, that it doesn’t matter what your professional credentials are. You’re going down baby,” Morrison told “Today” host Savannah Guthrie.

Perry had publicly struggled with addiction for decades, and his family believes he was unaware of his relapse before his death. “He believed somehow that this particular drug that he was taking wasn’t addictive, that it wouldn’t kill him. And of course it did,” Morrison told People magazine.

In his 2022 memoir, Perry expressed his desire to help others struggling with addiction. His family is now dedicated to carrying on his legacy through the Matthew Perry Foundation of Canada and the U.S.-based Matthew Perry Foundation. Both organizations are committed to supporting individuals facing the challenges of addiction.
