Tue Oct 29 10:40:02 UTC 2024: ## Ballon d’Or 2024: Vinicius Junior Favored as Messi and Ronaldo Absent from Nominees
The prestigious Ballon d’Or award will be presented in Paris on Monday, October 28th, marking a significant change – the first time in two decades that neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo will be among the nominees.
Real Madrid’s Brazilian forward, Vinicius Junior, is considered a strong contender for the coveted trophy, having showcased exceptional performances both for his club and Brazil. Other notable nominees include England’s Jude Bellingham, Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, and Cole Palmer, as well as former Germany international Toni Kroos.
The absence of Messi and Ronaldo, who have collectively won 13 Ballon d’Or awards since 2008, opens the door for new names to emerge.
The Ballon d’Or, awarded by France Football magazine since 1956, recognizes the outstanding footballer of the preceding season. A panel of journalists, representing the top 100 teams in the FIFA rankings, determine the winner based on a points system.
Alongside the main award, the Ballon d’Or Feminin (Women’s Ballon d’Or) will also be presented, along with awards for the Best Young Footballer, the Gerd Muller Trophy (top scorer), the Yashin Trophy (best goalkeeper), and the best club and coach in both men’s and women’s football.
Fans can watch the ceremony live on TV channels within the Sony Sports Network or via the SonyLIV app and website, starting at 8:45 PM local time in Paris (1:15 AM IST on October 29th).
