Mon Oct 28 06:42:23 UTC 2024: ## Seeman Criticizes Government’s Inaction in Madurai Flood Relief
**Madurai:** Following heavy rainfall in Madurai, Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) leader Seeman visited the affected areas and distributed relief materials to the residents. He later expressed his disappointment with the government’s response to the situation, blaming their inaction for the severe flooding.
Seeman criticized the lack of preparedness, stating that the government had failed to implement proper flood control measures. He pointed out the absence of desilting and deepening of water bodies, leading to waterlogging. He further questioned the government’s “wartime” response, emphasizing the need for permanent solutions to address the issue.
“This is a basic problem,” said Seeman. “The people here are crying out that no water bodies have been desilted or deepened. You have cemented and narrowed the drainage channels, which prevents the excess water from flowing away. Had this flooding happened inside the city, the damage would have been much worse.”
Seeman’s statement comes at a time when many residents are facing the brunt of the floods, facing hardship and demanding immediate action from the authorities. His criticism of the government’s inaction raises serious questions about their preparedness and ability to handle such natural calamities.
