Mon Oct 28 06:19:08 UTC 2024: ## Dhoni Endorses ‘Bazball’ as the Future of Test Cricket

Former Indian captain MS Dhoni has thrown his weight behind the aggressive “Bazball” approach currently revolutionizing Test cricket. Dhoni, known for his calm demeanor and strategic brilliance, believes the shift towards risk-taking and positive results is a natural evolution of the game.

“You can give cricket any term that you want,” Dhoni said. “What we have seen is cricket has evolved. The way people are playing cricket is very different.” He highlighted the changing dynamics of the game, where scores once considered safe in ODIs are now considered average in T20s.

Dhoni, who played 90 Test matches for India, recalled the challenges of playing out drawn matches, particularly on the fifth day. “The most difficult time during a Test match was the fifth day when you knew it would be a draw,” he said. “It was tiring going through the motions knowing there was no result.”

He believes the “Bazball” approach, popularized by current England captain Brendon McCullum, addresses the issue of inconclusive matches, which can be discouraging for fans. “Imagine telling someone who doesn’t know much about cricket: we play over five days, and after all that, we don’t get a result. That’s not nice for the game,” Dhoni remarked.

The former captain emphasized the entertainment value of the new approach. “Even if we are playing only four days of cricket and one day gets washed out, you still get a result – that’s the beauty of Test cricket, and that’s how it should stay,” Dhoni stated. He believes the thrill of the chase and the possibility of a result within four days, even after a weather disruption, makes Test cricket more engaging and exciting.

Dhoni’s endorsement of “Bazball” is a significant boost for the aggressive approach. His voice carries weight in the cricketing world, and his approval of the new style could encourage other teams to adopt a more aggressive and result-oriented strategy, further revitalizing the longest format of the game.
