Mon Oct 28 00:53:32 UTC 2024: ## Iran’s Supreme Leader Plays Down Israeli Airstrikes, Calling Them a “Miscalculation”
**Tehran, October 27, 2024:** Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has downplayed the recent Israeli airstrikes on Iranian military sites, calling them a “miscalculation” and urging against exaggerating or minimizing their significance.
In a post on X, Khamenei referred to the attack, which occurred on Saturday, as “evil” perpetrated by the “Zionist regime.” The strikes, which killed four Iranian soldiers, were in retaliation for a missile attack on Israel on October 1, itself a response to the killing of Iran-backed militant leaders and a Revolutionary Guards commander.
Following the airstrikes, Israeli military officials warned Iran against retaliatory actions. While Iranian officials and media have highlighted the country’s defensive capabilities, they have issued no promises of a direct response, opting instead to downplay the strikes and focus on the sacrifices of the soldiers killed.
President Masoud Pezeshkian paid tribute to the fallen soldiers, praising their efforts in “defending their land without fear.”
The ongoing tension between Iran and Israel continues to raise concerns about potential escalation in the region.
