Mon Oct 28 11:18:18 UTC 2024: ## X Suspends Khamenei’s Hebrew Account Amidst Israel-Iran Tensions
**Jerusalem, October 28, 2024:** X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, has suspended a newly created account attributed to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The account, which posted messages in Hebrew, was suspended on Monday morning with a brief notice stating the account violated X’s rules.
The suspension comes amidst heightened tensions between Israel and Iran following Israel’s first overt military strike on Iranian territory this past weekend. While Khamenei has avoided calling for direct retaliation, he did address the strikes in a speech on Sunday, stating that they “should not be exaggerated nor downplayed” and warning that “Zionists are making a miscalculation with respect to Iran.”
The Hebrew language account, which opened on Sunday, initially posted a standard Islamic greeting: “In the name of God, the most merciful.” This move is particularly significant as social media platforms like X and Facebook are blocked in Iran, requiring citizens to use VPNs to access them.
This is not the first time Khamenei has faced account suspensions on social media platforms. In February, Meta removed his Facebook and Instagram accounts in response to his support of the militant group Hamas following their attack on Israel in October 2023.
The reasons for the suspension of Khamenei’s Hebrew account remain unclear. X has not commented on the situation, and further details are expected.
