Mon Oct 28 15:43:32 UTC 2024: ## Mourinho Sent Off, Fenerbahce Earn Draw Against Manchester United

Fenerbahce secured a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Manchester United in the Europa League on Thursday, with a controversial penalty decision leading to the dismissal of Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese manager was sent to the stands after vehemently protesting a perceived penalty denial for Fenerbahce winger Bright Osayi-Samuel. Mourinho felt that a challenge by Manchester United’s Manuel Ugarte was worthy of a spot-kick, but referee Clement Turpin did not agree.

When asked about the incident, Mourinho told TNT Sports, “I watched the incident. I don’t want to speak about it.” He then described his conversation with Turpin, saying, “He told me something incredible. At the same time, he could see the action in the box and my behaviour on the touchline. I congratulate him because he’s absolutely incredible. During the game, at 100 miles per hour, he had one eye on the penalty situation, and he had one eye on the bench and on my behaviour. That’s the explanation he gave me. That’s why he is one of the best referees in the world.”

Mourinho’s dismissal comes just a year after he was handed a four-match touchline ban for his actions during the Europa League final.

The match itself saw Christian Eriksen open the scoring for Manchester United in the 15th minute. However, Fenerbahce equalised early in the second half through Youssef En-Nesyri. The draw leaves Manchester United with three draws in their three European outings this season, placing them 21st in the 36-team Europa League standings. Fenerbahce, meanwhile, sits 14th with five points.

Manchester United will next face West Ham United in the Premier League this weekend, while Fenerbahce will look to build on their point against the Red Devils in their upcoming Europa League fixture.
