Mon Oct 28 13:40:12 UTC 2024: ## Manchester United Sacks Erik ten Hag After Dismal Start to Season

Manchester United has shockingly dismissed manager Erik ten Hag following a disastrous start to the season. The decision comes after a 2-1 defeat to West Ham United on Sunday, leaving the Red Devils with just four wins in their first 13 games.

The club announced on Monday that Ruud van Nistelrooy, a former United striker, will take over as interim manager, starting with the Carabao Cup tie against Leicester City on Wednesday. Sources reveal that United’s decision to sack ten Hag stemmed from a loss of faith in his ability to turn around the club’s fortunes.

Ten Hag, who had his contract extended just this summer, faced mounting pressure after a poor run of results. United’s current league position, 14th after nine games, has ignited concerns about their chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

While ten Hag led United to an FA Cup win against Manchester City in the summer, his overall performance last season, which saw them finish 8th in the league, played a significant role in the decision.

Despite conversations with potential replacements, including Thomas Tuchel who is now the England manager, United opted to retain ten Hag. The club has now begun the search for a permanent manager, with Gareth Southgate, the former England manager, considered a potential candidate.
