Mon Oct 28 15:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Caribbean Low Pressure System Raises Hurricane Concerns as Atlantic Season Nears End
**MIAMI, FL** – The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is closely monitoring a developing area of low pressure in the southern Caribbean Sea, with a growing chance of tropical development over the next week. FOX Weather meteorologists Britta Merwin and Michael Estime are emphasizing the increased likelihood of development, particularly as the Atlantic hurricane season reaches its final month.
The low pressure system is expected to form around midweek, coinciding with the return of the Central American Gyre, a weather pattern that contributed to the formation of hurricanes Helene and Milton earlier this season. Gradual development is anticipated, with a potential tropical depression forming by late this week or over the weekend as the system moves northward or northeastward across the Caribbean Sea.
While the NHC emphasizes that most storms in this region don’t pose a direct threat to the US, FOX Weather Hurricane Specialist Bryan Norcross acknowledges a possibility of a northward track. He warns that the system could potentially impact Florida or the Eastern Seaboard.
“We’ll be watching developments closely all week,” Norcross stated, adding that the next named storm in the Atlantic Basin, which includes the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, will be called Patty.
The remainder of the Atlantic basin is expected to remain quiet as the final days of October approach, with the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season officially ending on November 30th.
