Sun Oct 27 06:00:30 UTC 2024: ## Mumbai: Stampede at Bandra Station Injures 9 During Diwali Rush

**Mumbai:** A stampede occurred at the Bandra Terminus in Mumbai on Sunday morning, injuring nine passengers. The incident took place on platform number 1 of Bandra (E) station around 2:25 AM as people rushed to board the Gorakhpur Express (train number 22921) heading towards their hometowns for Diwali.

The uncontrolled crowd, which even overwhelmed police presence, led to pushing and shoving as passengers attempted to board the train. This resulted in the stampede, which caused injuries to nine people.

All the injured passengers are currently being treated at the Bhabha Hospital in Bandra. Their condition is said to be stable, except for two individuals – Indrajit Sahni and Noor Mohammad Sheikh, whose condition is reported to be critical.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) attributes the incident to the massive influx of passengers travelling for the Diwali festival. Images and videos from the scene show blood on the platform and injured passengers lying unconscious. Railway police and other passengers can be seen carrying the injured on stretchers.

The stampede at Bandra station highlights the potential risks associated with large crowds and the need for better crowd management, particularly during festive periods.
