Sun Oct 27 05:23:55 UTC 2024: ## Stampede at Bandra Railway Station Leaves 9 Injured, Two Critical
**Mumbai, October 27, 2024:** A stampede at Bandra Railway Station in Mumbai left nine passengers injured, two of them critically, on Friday morning. The incident occurred around 6 AM as a large crowd gathered to board the Bandra-Gorakhpur train.
The stampede is believed to have been caused by a surge of passengers rushing onto platform number one to catch the long-distance train. Witnesses report a chaotic scene with people pushing and shoving each other, leading to the injuries.
The injured passengers were immediately taken to Bhabha Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
The stampede comes amid a surge in travel during the festive season of Diwali and Chhath Puja. Special trains have been added to cater to the influx of passengers traveling to their hometowns in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Videos of the incident have surfaced on social media, showing the sheer panic and chaos that engulfed the station. Police have arrived at the scene to manage the crowd and ensure further incidents are prevented.
The incident echoes the tragic stampede that took place at Elphinstone Road Station (now Prabhadevi Station) on September 29, 2017, which claimed the lives of 23 people.
The railway administration is currently investigating the incident and reviewing safety protocols. Concerns are being raised regarding the lack of crowd control measures and possible negligence on the part of railway authorities.
