**Dubai, UAE – October 18, 2024:** In a stunning upset, South Africa Women have booked their place in the final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, defeating six-time champions Australia in the first semi-final.

Australia, batting first, posted a respectable score of 135/5 in their allotted 20 overs. However, it was not enough to withstand the South African onslaught. Anneke Bosch smashed an unbeaten 74 off 48 balls, steering her team to victory with 16 balls to spare and 8 wickets in hand.

This victory not only ended Australia’s dominance in the tournament, but also marked the end of their impressive run of 15 consecutive wins in the Women’s T20 World Cup.

South Africa will now face the winner of the second semi-final between West Indies and New Zealand in the final. Captain Laura Wolvaardt played a crucial role in South Africa’s victory, scoring 42 runs off 37 balls, while Tazmin Brits contributed 15 runs and Chloe Tryon remained unbeaten on 1.

This is the third time in the tournament’s history that Australia has been knocked out in the semi-finals. They were previously defeated by England in 2009 and West Indies in 2016. Interestingly, both of those defeats saw them lose by 8 wickets.

The Women’s T20 World Cup final promises to be a thrilling encounter with South Africa looking to make history and claim their first-ever title.
