Fri Oct 18 09:01:05 UTC 2024: ## UGC NET Result 2024: Over 1 Lakh Candidates Qualify for PhD, 53,000 for Assistant Professor Posts
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released the results for the National Eligibility Test (NET) for June 2024. A total of 1,121,225 candidates registered for the exam, out of which 684,224 appeared.
A total of 1,12,070 candidates have qualified for PhD, while 53,694 have cleared the exam for Assistant Professor positions. Furthermore, 4,970 candidates qualified for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF).
**UGC JRF Scholarship:**
Those who successfully cleared the UGC NET JRF examination will receive a monthly scholarship of ₹37,000 for two years. This scholarship amount was increased last year during the UGC’s 572nd meeting.
**Assistant Professor Eligibility:**
Passing the UGC NET exam is mandatory for those aspiring to become Assistant Professors in colleges and educational institutions. Previously, a PhD was also a requirement, but the UGC removed this requirement in July 2023.
**Exam Details:**
The UGC NET exam covers 83 subjects. It consists of two papers: a common paper and a subject-specific paper chosen by the candidate.
