Fri Oct 18 07:45:17 UTC 2024: ## Bahraich Violence: Five Suspects Arrested, Two Injured in Encounter

**Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh:** Five suspects involved in the recent violence in Bahraich district have been arrested following an encounter with Uttar Pradesh police on Thursday. Two of the suspects sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange of fire.

The encounter occurred in the Nanpara area while the police team was searching for the murder weapon used in the death of Ram Gopal Mishra, who was killed during the violence on Sunday. According to Superintendent of Police Vrinda Shukla, the two injured suspects, identified as Md. Sarfaraz and Md. Talib, fired at police while attempting to flee. The police retaliated in self-defense, resulting in the injuries. Both are currently receiving medical treatment.

The other three suspects arrested have been identified as Mohammad Faheen, Abdul Hameed, and Mohammad Taleem alias Sabloo. According to ADG (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash, police have established a link to one of the accused in Nepal.

The deceased, Ram Gopal Mishra, was found to have suffered over 30 pellet injuries from a 12-bore gun, according to the post-mortem report. The report revealed no evidence of sharp-edge injuries, electrocution, or nail removal, contradicting misinformation circulating on social media.

The arrests have sparked reactions from political leaders, with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav alleging that the Yogi Adityanath-led government is using encounters to cover up its failure. The Congress also labeled the encounter “fake,” with party leaders criticizing the state government for its handling of the situation.

The violence in Bahraich erupted on Sunday allegedly due to loud music being played outside a place of worship during a Durga Puja immersion procession. The incident led to widespread vandalism and arson in the area, targeting homes, shops, hospitals, and vehicles.

All five arrested suspects will be charged under the National Security Act and other relevant legal provisions. The investigation is ongoing.
