Fri Oct 18 02:22:08 UTC 2024: ## Sri Lanka Clinch T20 Series Against West Indies in Thrilling Fashion
**Dambulla, Sri Lanka:** Sri Lanka celebrated a dominant 2-1 series victory against West Indies in the third and final T20I at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Thursday.
The hosts chased down a target of 162 with ease, winning by 9 wickets and 12 balls to spare. Kusal Mendis and Kusal Perera both smashed unbeaten half-centuries, showcasing Sri Lanka’s batting prowess.
The West Indies, who won the first match of the series, were unable to capitalize on their early advantage. Despite a valiant effort from Rovman Powell and Gudakesh Motie, who stabilized the innings after a shaky start, the Caribbean side failed to reach a competitive total.
Sri Lankan bowlers Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana were instrumental in restricting the West Indies, each claiming two wickets. However, it was the hosts’ batting that stole the show, with Mendis and Perera leading the charge in a dominant chase.
“The top-order batters batted brilliantly and that helped the team win the series,” said Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka. “The aggressive start at the top is something that the two at the top decided by themselves, and thanks to them for that solid start at the top.”
A disappointed Rovman Powell, West Indies captain, acknowledged the superior performance of the Sri Lankan side. “We had enough runs on the board on such a tricky track, but credit goes to Sri Lanka as they batted well,” he said. “As a bowling group, we failed to make a game of it and the game went away from them in the Powerplay itself.”
Kusal Mendis was named Player of the Match, while Pathum Nissanka was awarded Player of the Series.
The series win marks a resounding comeback for Sri Lanka after losing the first match. Under the guidance of coach Sanath Jayasuriya, the team showcased their resilience and talent, setting the stage for exciting international matches to come.
