Fri Oct 18 13:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Four Schoolboys, Cops, and Crooks: “Snakes & Ladders” Web Series Offers Moderate Entertainment

“Snakes & Ladders,” a new Tamil web series on Amazon Prime Video, explores the themes of friendship, family, and crime in a fictional hill town called Rettamugadu (inspired by Kodaikanal). The series, created by Kamala Alchemis and Dhivakar Kamal with Karthik Subbaraj as creative producer, follows four inseparable schoolboys caught in the midst of a robbery and assault case involving a gang of criminals.

While the series employs the classic cops-and-thieves trope, the action is uneven and the plot meanders at times. However, the sub-plots focusing on the boys’ relationships with their families and each other offer a more engaging aspect.

The story unfolds as a pair of burglars, including the psychopathic Blade, rob an art museum and subsequently break into two homes, leading to a chaotic chain of events. The robbery leaves a schoolteacher in a coma and sparks a manhunt led by Inspector Rajendran, who struggles to control his own son, Vinay, a high school bully.

The four boys – Gilbert, Iraiyan, Sandy, and Bala – become unwittingly involved in the criminal activities, struggling to hide their actions from the police and the criminals alike. The series also delves into the personal lives of the boys, highlighting their strained relationships with their fathers.

Despite some uneven pacing, “Snakes & Ladders” offers a glimpse into the complexities of family relationships and the consequences of impulsive decisions. While the series may not be a thrilling masterpiece, it leaves viewers with a sense of anticipation for a second season, which promises to be more action-packed and reveal the identity of the series’ ultimate antagonist.
