Bengaluru, India: India’s captain Rohit Sharma expressed his disappointment after Virat Kohli and KL Rahul missed a crucial catch during the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru. The dropped catch, which occurred during the 13th over, allowed New Zealand’s opening batsmen, Tom Latham and Devon Conway, to gain a foothold in the match.
Siraj’s delivery, which bounced off a length, forced Latham to poke away from his body. The ball caught the outside edge of Latham’s bat, flying between the first and second slip. While Kohli stood at the first slip, Rahul, who was positioned at second slip, failed to react and the ball sailed to the boundary.
This crucial miss came after India was bowled out for a paltry 46 runs in their first innings, their lowest ever Test score at home. The team was desperately seeking early wickets to claw back into the match, but the dropped catch put New Zealand in a commanding position.
Conway, who was already looking comfortable against the Indian bowling attack, went on to score 61 runs by tea. He reached his fifty off just 54 balls, showcasing his aggressive intent.
The missed opportunity by India’s slip fielders has cast a shadow over their performance in the first Test. New Zealand, capitalizing on the dropped catch, has established a strong lead and will look to maintain their dominance in the coming days.
