Fri Oct 18 12:46:13 UTC 2024: ## Rishabh Pant Injured, Misses Day 3 of India vs New Zealand Test in Bengaluru

**Bengaluru:** India’s wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was ruled out of the ongoing first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru due to a knee injury. Pant suffered the injury during the second day of the match when he collided with a delivery while keeping wickets. The injury, reportedly a recurrence of a previous knee injury, forced him to leave the field mid-match and he remained unavailable on the third day as well.

The incident occurred when Pant was attempting to stop a delivery bowled by Ravindra Jadeja. The ball ricocheted off the ground and hit his right knee, leaving him in visible discomfort. He was helped off the field and did not return to the game.

“We don’t want to take any risks,” India captain Rohit Sharma had said on the injury after the second day’s play. “He doesn’t want to risk it either. This is the same knee he had surgery on before. That’s why he went back to the dressing room.”

With Pant sidelined, wicketkeeper-batter Dhrub Jurel replaced him behind the stumps. Pant had top-scored for India in the first innings with 20 runs off 49 balls, a score that stood out amidst a disappointing batting performance by the rest of the Indian team.

This injury is a major blow to India, as Pant has been a key player in recent years. His absence adds further pressure to the team, who are already trailing in the first innings. It remains unclear how long he will be out of action, but his absence is likely to be a significant one for India in the upcoming series.
