Fri Oct 18 10:22:57 UTC 2024: ## Tim Southee Breaks Virender Sehwag’s Record for Most Sixes in Tests
**Bangalore, India:** Tim Southee, the New Zealand fast bowler, has surpassed Virender Sehwag’s record for most sixes in Test cricket during the first Test match between India and New Zealand in Bangalore.
Southee, known for his pace and swing, has now hit 92 sixes in 103 Test matches, surpassing Sehwag’s tally of 91 in 104 matches. This achievement came during Southee’s seventh half-century in Tests, which he scored off just 57 balls, including three fours and three sixes.
Currently, Ben Stokes holds the record for most sixes in Test cricket with 131 in 106 matches. Brendan McCullum (107 in 101 matches) and Adam Gilchrist (100 in 96 matches) are the only other batsmen to have hit over 100 sixes in Test cricket.
Southee is close to joining the elite club of batsmen with over 100 sixes in Test matches. He is only eight sixes away from achieving this milestone, which would also see him overtake Jacques Kallis (97 sixes) and Chris Gayle (98 sixes) in the list.
The match in Bangalore saw New Zealand dominate India, scoring 402 runs in their first innings after India were bowled out for just 46. The match continues with New Zealand holding a commanding lead of 356 runs.
