Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – The Six Kings Slam, an exhibition event featuring some of tennis’s biggest names, is underway in Riyadh. The tournament boasts a hefty prize pool, with each player receiving $1.5 million for participation and the winner taking home $6 million.
However, the tournament has attracted controversy, with notable absences like Casper Ruud. The Norwegian star revealed that he declined an offer to play in Saudi Arabia due to the country’s controversial human rights record.
“It is obviously a controversial country in terms of many things,” Ruud stated, adding that while Saudi Arabia is not the only country with human rights concerns, he believes their actions are more blatant.
