Fri Oct 18 08:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Pant Injured, Misses Day 3 of First Test Against New Zealand

**Bengaluru, India:** India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of Day 3 of the first Test against New Zealand after sustaining a knee injury on Day 2.

Pant, who has been recovering from a serious car accident in December 2022, was struck on his right knee by a sharp delivery from Ravindra Jadeja in the 37th over of New Zealand’s innings. The impact caused swelling and discomfort, forcing him to leave the field.

Substitute wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel took over behind the stumps for the remainder of Day 2 and will continue to do so on Day 3.

“The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress,” the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a statement.

India captain Rohit Sharma expressed caution, saying, “It is a precautionary measure. We do not want to take a risk. Rishabh does not want to take a risk because he has gone through a massive surgery on that particular leg.”

Pant’s injury is a major blow to India, who were hoping for his crucial contributions with both bat and gloves. His availability for the remainder of the series remains uncertain.
