**Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh:** Five individuals were apprehended in Bahraich after an encounter with Uttar Pradesh police on Thursday. The police claim the group, accused of fomenting communal tension during a Durga Puja procession and killing a 22-year-old man, were attempting to flee to Nepal. However, a family member has raised serious concerns, alleging a “fake encounter” and fearing the death of her husband and brother-in-law.
According to police officials, two of the accused were injured while trying to escape and were shot in the leg near the Nepal border. The five men were taken into custody after a gunfight in the Hada Basehari area.
Rukhsar, a family member of the accused, expressed deep concern, claiming that her husband and brother-in-law were detained without any information after a search of their home by the STF on October 14th. She fears they were killed during a “fake encounter”, particularly after learning of their arrest in Dharam Kanta.
Opposition leaders, including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, have also raised the possibility of a “fake encounter”, criticizing the state government for using such tactics to mask its failures.
The police maintain that the accused were arrested while attempting to cross the border and that the gunfight occurred during the recovery of weapons. Bahraich MLA Sureshwar Singh confirmed that the injured men are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
The incident has ignited controversy, with the family’s allegations of a “fake encounter” raising serious questions about the circumstances surrounding the arrests. Further investigation is expected to shed light on the truth behind this encounter.
