**Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh:** In a dramatic turn of events following communal violence in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, five men accused of inciting the violence were arrested, with two being shot during an alleged encounter with police.

The violence erupted on Monday, October 30, after the death of 22-year-old Gopal Mishra during a Durga Puja idol immersion procession. Mishra was shot and killed amidst allegations of inflammatory songs played during the procession, stone pelting from houses, and an attempt to replace a green flag with a saffron one.

The five arrested men were identified as Mohammad Faheem, Mohammad Sarfaraz, Abdul Hameed, Mohammad Taleem alias Sabloo, and Mohammad Afzal. Two of them, Sarfaraz and Talib, were shot during an encounter with police while being taken for weapons recovery near the India-Nepal border.

According to police, the two men attempted to flee, prompting the police to open fire. The injured men are undergoing treatment at Bahraich Medical College.

The incident has drawn criticism from the Opposition, with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Ajay Rai accusing the Yogi Adityanath-led government of failing to maintain law and order and using encounters to hide its failures.

The incident has highlighted the sensitive communal situation in Uttar Pradesh, where tensions have flared up in recent years. The police are investigating the incident, and a detailed investigation is expected to shed light on the events leading up to the violence and the circumstances of the encounter.
