Fri Oct 18 07:42:10 UTC 2024: ## Indian Dietary Habits Ranked Most Sustainable Globally: WWF Report

**Geneva, Switzerland:** A new report by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has lauded India’s dietary habits as the most sustainable among G20 nations. The “Living Planet Report” released on Thursday highlights that adopting India’s food consumption pattern could significantly reduce the environmental impact of global food production by 2050.

The report states that if all countries adopted India’s food pattern, only 16% of global resources would be needed to meet our food requirements. This would also contribute to lowering greenhouse gas emissions and stabilizing the climate. Conversely, if the world were to adopt the consumption patterns of countries like Argentina, Australia, and the United States, it would require seven Earths to sustain our food needs.

The report specifically praises India’s National Millet Mission, which promotes the consumption of millets, an ancient and nutritious grain that is highly resilient to climate change. The report emphasizes that shifting towards a more sustainable diet would reduce the need for farmland, leading to increased areas for pastures and carbon sequestration.

While India’s dietary patterns are commended for their environmental friendliness, the report highlights Argentina’s food consumption as the least sustainable, followed by Australia, the US, Brazil, France, Italy, Canada, and the UK.

This groundbreaking report underscores the importance of dietary choices in shaping a more sustainable future. It calls on global leaders and policymakers to prioritize promoting sustainable food systems and incentivize the adoption of dietary patterns that minimize environmental impact.
