**Anantapur, October 17, 2024:** Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti was celebrated with fervor across the erstwhile Kurnool and Anantapur districts on Thursday.

In Anantapur, Backward Classes (BC) Welfare Minister S. Savitha paid tribute to the sage by garlanding his statue at the Power Office. Addressing an event organized as part of the state-level celebrations at Gooty Road, the Minister highlighted the TDP government’s commitment to the BC community, emphasizing the numerous schemes and initiatives launched for their benefit. She cited the NTR Videshi Vidya scheme for overseas education and the upcoming civil services coaching centre in Amaravati as examples.

The Minister further emphasized the government’s focus on building BC bhavans in each district and introducing the BC Protection Act.

Anantapur MP Ambica Lakshminarayana seized the opportunity to call for the bridge constructed at the district headquarters’ Tower Clock to be named after Valmiki.

In Nandyal, District Collector Rajkumari Ganeria garlanded the statue of Mahakavi Valmiki at the RTC Bus stand. She urged the public to consider the Ramayana, authored by Valmiki, as a model for living.
