**Guwahati, Assam:** A major train accident was averted today in Assam when the Agartala-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express (Train No. 2520) derailed near Dibalongan station. Eight coaches, including the power car and engine, went off the tracks, but thankfully, no casualties or serious injuries have been reported.
The incident occurred around 3:55 PM on Thursday afternoon in the Lumding-Badarpur Hill section, under the Lumding Division of the Northeast Frontier Railway.
“The Agartala-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express derailed near Dibalongan station in Assam. Eight coaches went off the tracks,” a railway spokesperson confirmed.
An emergency response team, including senior railway officials, has already been dispatched to the site from Lumding. Train operations on the single-line Lumding-Badarpur hill section have been suspended. The railway has also set up helpline numbers in Lumding for passengers: 03674 263120 and 03674 263126.
The cause of the derailment is yet to be determined, and a thorough investigation is expected.
