Thu Oct 17 01:58:32 UTC 2024: ## Rain Threatens to Derail India-New Zealand Test in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, India – The first Test match between India and New Zealand in Bengaluru is facing a serious threat from persistent rain. Day 1 of the match was completely washed out due to heavy downpour, and the weather forecast for Day 2 remains grim.

Despite the state-of-the-art drainage system at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, which can prepare the pitch for play within 30 minutes of rainfall, the persistent rain has hampered preparations. The toss was delayed and the match was ultimately abandoned.

With a 40% chance of rain and a 24% chance of thunderstorms predicted for Day 2, there are serious concerns that the match could be further impacted. AccuWeather forecasts a temperature of 27°C with a “real feel” of 31°C.

This inclement weather has already caused flooding in parts of Bengaluru, highlighting the extent of the rainfall.

The match is scheduled to begin at 9:15 am, weather permitting. However, the possibility of further delays or even cancellations remains high.

Meanwhile, India’s team management is considering Anil Kumble’s suggestion to have a specific batsman open the innings in Australia if Rohit Sharma is unavailable for the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Sharma is likely to miss the first Test in Perth due to personal reasons.

Cricket fans will be hoping for a break in the weather to witness the eagerly anticipated Test series between India and New Zealand.
