Thu Oct 17 13:04:19 UTC 2024: ## India Collapses to Lowest Test Score at Home, New Zealand Takes Control in Bengaluru
**Bengaluru, India:** A disastrous day for India saw them crumble to their lowest ever Test score at home, collapsing to just 46 runs in their first innings against New Zealand in the first Test match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
New Zealand capitalized on the Indian batting woes, reaching 180/3 at stumps on day 2, taking a commanding 134-run lead.
The Indian innings was marred by a disastrous start with captain Rohit Sharma falling for just 2 runs. The top order struggled to cope with the New Zealand attack, with Virat Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan, and Yashasvi Jaiswal all failing to make a significant impact.
Matt Henry spearheaded the New Zealand bowling attack, claiming a five-wicket haul, while Will O’Rourke bagged four wickets, effectively dismantling the Indian batting order.
The only notable resistance came from wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, who top-scored with 20 runs. Unfortunately, Pant was forced to retire hurt due to a knee injury and was replaced by Druv Jurel behind the stumps.
New Zealand, in contrast, enjoyed a strong start thanks to a solid opening stand of 67 runs between captain Tom Latham and Devon Conway. Although Latham fell for 15 runs, Conway continued his aggressive batting, scoring 91 runs before falling victim to R. Ashwin.
Will Young provided steady support to Conway, adding 75 runs for the second wicket. Young finished the day on 33 runs.
While India managed to pick up three wickets, New Zealand’s dominance was evident, with the visitors looking strong heading into day 3.
The match has now taken a dramatic turn, with New Zealand in a strong position to take control of the series opener. The Indian team will need a miraculous performance to salvage their chances in this Test match.
