Thu Oct 17 07:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Rain Drenches India’s Hopes in First Test Against New Zealand
The first day of the India-New Zealand Test series in Bengaluru was marred by rain, forcing a washout and leaving the Indian team reeling after a shaky start.
Despite winning the toss and electing to bat under overcast conditions, India’s batting lineup was rattled by the Kiwi bowlers. In just 12.4 overs before the rain interruption, India lost three wickets for a meager 13 runs.
Openers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were dismissed early, scoring just 2 and 0 respectively. Sarfaraz Khan, making his Test debut, also fell for a duck, caught brilliantly by Devon Conway at extra cover.
This marked the third time since 1990 that India lost three wickets for under 10 runs, the last instance being in 2010.
Yashasvi Jaiswal (8*) and Rishabh Pant (3*) were at the crease when the rain stopped play. The match will resume on day two, with India hoping to recover from this disastrous start.
