**Guwahati, Assam:** A major train accident was averted in Assam on Thursday evening when eight coaches of the Agartala-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express derailed near Dibalong station in the Lumding division. The incident occurred in the Lumding-Badarpur Hill section, according to railway officials.
While the power car and engine were among the derailed coaches, thankfully, there were no reports of injuries or casualties. A rescue train has been dispatched to the site.
The train, which departed from Agartala in the morning, was on its way to Mumbai when the accident occurred at around 3:55 PM. The incident has disrupted train services on the single-line Lumding-Badarpur Hill section.
Senior railway officials are at the site to oversee rescue and restoration efforts. The Lumding division has also issued helpline numbers – 03674 263120, 03674 263126 – for assistance.
The cause of the derailment is currently under investigation.
