Thu Oct 17 01:01:16 UTC 2024: ## Valmiki Jayanti to be Celebrated as State Holiday, Demands Valmiki Mahasena
**Kadapa, October 12, 2024:** The Valmiki Mahasena, a social organization representing the Valmiki community, has demanded that the Andhra Pradesh government declare Valmiki Jayanti as a public holiday. The organization’s leaders met with the press on Friday and expressed their displeasure with the inconsistent categorization of Valmiki people as Scheduled Tribes (STs) in some areas and Backward Classes (BCs) in others. This inconsistency, they claim, has deprived Valmikis of their rightful share of reservations.
The organization has welcomed the government’s decision to celebrate Valmiki Jayanti on October 17th across the state. However, they believe that declaring it a public holiday would demonstrate greater respect for the community and their historical contributions.
The press conference was attended by prominent Valmiki Mahasena leaders including state president Vijay Kumar, district president Mutharasu Harikrishna, and other leaders like Ravi, Sri, Muniswami, Bamvagaru Shankar, and Boggiti Krishnamurthy. The organization is hopeful that the government will consider their request and declare Valmiki Jayanti as a public holiday, recognizing the contributions of the community to Indian society.
