**Deoria, Uttar Pradesh:** Tension gripped Salempur in Deoria on Wednesday after a clash during Durga idol immersion left two youths injured. The incident, which occurred in the Majhauli Raj area, saw a group of youths attacked with sharp weapons. The victims, identified as Jitendra Kumar and Rajan Patel, sustained injuries to their neck and waist respectively.
The incident sparked outrage among those participating in the procession, who staged a sit-in on the road demanding the arrest of the attackers. Police were forced to deploy heavy security to control the situation.
The District Magistrate, Divya Mittal, confirmed that the main accused, Angur Alam, has been arrested. The injured youths, Jitendra Kumar and Rajan Patel, are receiving treatment at the Salempur CHC.
This incident comes just days after a similar incident in Bahraich’s Hardi area, where a man named Ram Gopal was shot dead during a Durga immersion procession. Five individuals have been arrested in connection to this incident, with two of them sustaining injuries during a police encounter.
