**Gaza City, Palestine** – The Israeli army has claimed to have killed Yahya Sinwar, the head of Hamas’s political bureau, in an operation in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli military radio reported the incident on Thursday, stating that Sinwar was killed in an exchange of fire in Tel Sultan, south of the Gaza Strip, while wearing a military vest and accompanied by another field commander.

According to Israeli media sources, the assassination was allegedly accidental, with no prior intelligence indicating Sinwar’s presence. The Israeli army targeted a building where Sinwar and other militants were believed to be located.

While the Israeli army and the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) have not yet definitively confirmed Sinwar’s death, they are currently conducting DNA tests on a body recovered from the site. Sinwar was previously imprisoned by Israel, and the Israeli authorities possess his medical records, including DNA samples.

The Israeli statement emphasized that the building where the operation took place did not contain any Israeli hostages.

Hamas has not yet released any official statement regarding the incident.

Sinwar is considered the mastermind behind the “Flood of Al-Aqsa” operation, launched on October 7th, 2023, which resulted in the deaths of over 1,000 Israeli soldiers and civilians.
