**New Delhi:** A UK-based associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, Rohit Godara, has been identified as the mastermind behind a plot to target stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui, according to The Indian Express. The revelation came during an investigation into the murder of an Afghan gym owner in Delhi last month.
Police arrested a shooter linked to Godara in a separate case in Haryana. During interrogation, the shooter revealed details about the plot against Faruqui. The central intelligence agencies shared information with Delhi Police, revealing that Bishnoi’s gang had a Muslim comedian on their hit list, though they were unsure of the individual’s identity.
Delhi Police, investigating the Afghan gym owner’s murder, found Faruqui’s name on the guest list of a hotel in New Friends Colony, where he was staying for the Entertainers Cricket League. The police immediately alerted Faruqui, who then travelled to Mumbai with security provided by the Delhi police.
The accused hired to target Faruqui confessed that he was contacted by Godara over a call and instructed to “eliminate Faruqui”. He and his associate conducted reconnaissance in both Mumbai and Delhi. He was subsequently arrested in Haryana for an unrelated case.
The police are now investigating the threat to Faruqui’s life and pursuing charges against Godara and his associates. The revelation highlights the growing influence of organized crime networks in India and their involvement in high-profile threats and attacks.
