Wed Oct 16 15:43:59 UTC 2024: ## Kerala Government Backtracks on Sabarimala Virtual Queue System Amidst Political Opposition

**THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:** The Kerala government has yielded to pressure from opposition parties and decided to **retain the on-the-spot booking facility** at the Sabarimala Temple for the upcoming Mandala Makaravilakku pilgrimage season. This decision comes after **intense criticism** from the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), the BJP, and even the CPI, an ally of the ruling front, who **strongly opposed the removal of the spot-booking option**.

Initially, the state government had planned to introduce a **virtual queue system** to manage the influx of pilgrims during the peak season. However, this proposal faced significant backlash, prompting Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to announce the reversal of the decision in the Assembly on Tuesday.

Vijayan assured that the government will ensure **smooth darshan for pilgrims** who come to Sabarimala even without online registration. To facilitate a seamless pilgrimage, the state government held a meeting with the Travancore Devaswom Board, police, and district administration under the Chief Minister’s chairmanship.

Comprehensive arrangements have been made for the pilgrimage, including **improved facilities at Sannidhanam, Pamba, and transit points**. The government has also taken measures to **enhance safety and medical services** for pilgrims, with plans to set up ambulance systems, emergency medical centers, and even deploy cardiologists at key locations. Road repairs, amenities, and security measures are also in place to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for devotees.
