Wed Oct 16 06:21:56 UTC 2024: ## New Zealand Pacer Ben Sears Ruled Out of India Test Series Due to Knee Injury

**Bengaluru, India -** New Zealand’s rising pace star, Ben Sears, has been ruled out of the upcoming three-Test series against India due to a knee injury. The news came as a blow to the Kiwis, with the first Test scheduled to begin on Wednesday.

Sears, who had a promising start to his Test career during the home summer, experienced pain in his left knee during New Zealand’s recent tour of Sri Lanka. Subsequent scans revealed a meniscus tear, leading to medical consultations in hopes of a potential recovery in time for the India series.

However, following medical advice, New Zealand Cricket ultimately decided to rule Sears out of the series. A treatment and rehabilitation plan will be announced at a later date.

In Sears’ absence, uncapped fast bowler Jacob Duffy has been called up as his replacement. The 30-year-old right-arm pacer, who has represented New Zealand in 6 ODIs and 14 T20Is, will depart for India on Wednesday. Duffy has also amassed an impressive 299 wickets in 102 First-Class matches.

New Zealand head coach Gary Stead expressed disappointment over Sears’ injury, highlighting his pace and potential. However, Stead expressed optimism for a swift recovery for the injured bowler and excitement for Duffy’s potential Test debut.

“Jacob’s recent experience playing for Nottinghamshire in the County Championship certainly pushed his place,” said Stead. “His performances in white-ball cricket for the Blackcaps have always been impressive and we’re confident he’ll be able to contribute if called upon.”
