Bengaluru, India: New Zealand batsman Rachin Ravindra is set to experience a unique blend of sporting passion and family connection as he prepares for the first Test against India in Bengaluru.

Ravindra, whose parents hail from the city, feels a strong sense of belonging in Bengaluru, a feeling amplified by the presence of his grandparents, T. Balakrishna Adiga and Poornima, who still reside there. “It’s something different about playing a Test match. You’re here for five days and it’s a tradition,” said Ravindra, highlighting the significance of playing at this level, particularly with the family connection.

The 24-year-old, born and raised in Wellington, New Zealand, holds a strong connection to his Indian heritage, a fact evident in his statement, “I’m born and brought up in Wellington, you know, I’m a Kiwi all the way through. So, for me it’s amazing and I’m very proud of my Indian heritage and to be able to play where a lot of my family is based is something pretty special.”

Ravindra’s father, Ravi Krishnamurthy, has traveled from Wellington to witness his son’s Test debut in the city where he spent his formative years and played club cricket.

This isn’t the first time Ravindra has graced the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Last year, he played in the ODI World Cup and scored a remarkable 108 against Pakistan. He later returned to the venue during IPL 2024, representing the Chennai Super Kings.

As he steps onto the field for this crucial Test match, Ravindra embraces the warmth of a homecoming, a feeling that resonates deeply, even after multiple visits. The upcoming series promises to be a memorable one for Ravindra, a blend of sporting ambition and cherished family connections.
