Wed Oct 16 06:11:15 UTC 2024: ## Bengaluru Flooded as Incessant Rains Bring City to its Knees
**Bengaluru, October 16, 2024:** Incessant rainfall throughout Tuesday brought Bengaluru to a standstill, with widespread flooding affecting homes, roads, and public transportation. The city’s civic body, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), reported flooding in 102 houses and the fall of 39 trees, with 26 cleared.
The flooding, which impacted 52 areas across the city, caused significant disruption to daily life. In Sri Sai Layout at Horamavu, residents reported recurring flooding for the past three years despite promises from the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister. Kendriya Vihar, an apartment near Kogilu, was also flooded, with water entering the basement and entrance.
Manyata Tech Park witnessed flooding, making it difficult for employees to navigate. Belagere Road saw a school bus stranded in floodwater, requiring locals to rescue the children using a tractor.
Traffic ground to a halt across the city, particularly on arterial and sub-arterial roads in Mahadevapura, Yelahanka, and East zones, as well as in North Bengaluru. Hebbal flyover experienced severe congestion, while Bellandur Lake Road was impassable due to flooding.
The heavy rainfall also caused a slab of a manhole in front of Cubbon Park to open, leading to sewage overflow. At Panathur railway underpass, several vehicles were stuck as water entered their silencer tubes.
The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain with thunder showers to continue, raising concerns about further flooding and its impact on the city.
