Wed Oct 16 15:04:13 UTC 2024: ## Mahakal Temple Alters Daily Rituals for Winter

**Ujjain:** Starting October 18th, the daily routine of Lord Mahakal at the Ujjain Mahakal Temple will undergo a change to accommodate the onset of winter. This change, which will continue until Falgun Purnima, is a traditional practice observed every six months to align the deity’s schedule with the changing seasons.

As per the tradition, Lord Mahakal will be bathed in warm water during the Bhasma Aarti, replacing the cold water used during the summer months. The timings of three of the five daily aartis will also be adjusted.

The Dadyodak or Balbhog Aarti, currently held at 7 am, will be moved to 7.30 am. Similarly, the Bhoga Aarti, where Lord Mahakal is offered a meal, will be pushed back to 10.30 am from 10 am, indicating that the deity will be partaking of his meal half an hour later during the winter. The Sandhya Aarti, held at 7 pm, will now take place at 6.30 pm due to the earlier sunset during winter.

The Bhasma Aarti at 4 am and Shayan Aarti at 10.30 pm will continue as per the usual schedule, as will the Sandhya Pujan at 5 pm.

This practice of adjusting the daily routine of Lord Mahakal is deeply rooted in the temple’s traditional practices, ensuring the deity’s comfort and well-being amidst the changing seasons.
