Mon Oct 14 23:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Yankees Add Rizzo and Stroman for ALCS Showdown with Guardians

**NEW YORK** – The New York Yankees, just four wins away from their first World Series appearance since 2009, have bolstered their roster for the American League Championship Series against the Cleveland Guardians by adding veteran first baseman Anthony Rizzo and starting pitcher Marcus Stroman.

Rizzo, who fractured his right hand in late September, is remarkably ready to play just 16 days after the injury. Despite not facing live pitching since the injury, Rizzo declared himself ready after a series of drills over the weekend. The four-time Gold Glove winner will provide a defensive upgrade at first base, with manager Aaron Boone stating, “He looks very Anthony-ish.”

Stroman’s addition provides the Yankees with a long reliever option, allowing them to conserve their high-leverage relievers in a seven-game series. Stroman, who last pitched on September 25th, will provide valuable innings, offering flexibility for manager Boone in key moments.

The Yankees’ roster changes see rookie first baseman Ben Rice and pinch-running specialist Duke Ellis replaced by Rizzo and Stroman, resulting in a roster of 12 pitchers and 14 position players.

The Guardians, meanwhile, made one roster change, replacing infielder Angel Martinez with right-hander Pedro Avila, giving them 13 pitchers and 13 position players.

Both teams are now ready for an intense ALCS battle, with the Yankees aiming for a World Series berth and the Guardians seeking an upset victory. The series begins Monday night in Cleveland.
