Mon Oct 14 23:24:50 UTC 2024: ## Van Dijk Returns to Liverpool for Rest Ahead of Busy Schedule

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has opted to return to England for a short period of rest following his red card for the Netherlands in their 1-1 draw against Hungary on Friday.

Despite being suspended for their upcoming Nations League game against Germany, Van Dijk initially stated his desire to remain with the squad. However, the defender has since decided it is best to return to Liverpool to prepare for a demanding schedule that begins with a Premier League clash against Chelsea next Sunday.

“I wanted to stay with the team to give the lads my support, but now I have decided it is better to go home,” Van Dijk explained. “With all the matches we have coming, I fully understand that the club thinks it is a good moment to get some rest.”

Liverpool faces a grueling seven games in 21 days, including fixtures against Brighton, Aston Villa, Arsenal, RB Leipzig, and Bayer Leverkusen. Van Dijk has been a key player for Liverpool this season, featuring in all but one match as the Reds have enjoyed a strong start to the campaign.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah has also been released from international duty with Egypt after concerns about the pitch for their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Mauritania.

With the majority of Liverpool’s players returning from international duty, manager Jurgen Klopp will have several days to prepare a nearly full-strength squad for the crucial match against Chelsea.
