Mon Oct 14 22:42:49 UTC 2024: ## Van Dijk Returns to Liverpool Early After Red Card

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has returned to Merseyside ahead of crucial Premier League fixtures against Chelsea and Arsenal, following his red card for the Netherlands during a Nations League match.

Despite initially expressing his desire to remain with the squad, Van Dijk decided to prioritize rest before Liverpool’s return to domestic action next weekend. He cited the “massive pile of matches” and “all the travelling” as factors influencing his decision.

“I wanted to stay with the team to give the lads my support, but now I have decided it is better to go home,” van Dijk said in an interview with Dutch reporters. “With all the matches we have coming, I fully understand that the club thinks it is a good moment to get some rest.”

This decision comes as Liverpool prepare for a challenging period, facing Chelsea at Anfield next Sunday and then Arsenal the following week.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah has also been released from international duty early due to concerns over the pitch for Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Mauritania. He will also have a full week of rest before the clash against Chelsea.

The early returns of both van Dijk and Salah provide a boost for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp as they face a busy schedule. However, both Chelsea and Arsenal have injury concerns of their own, with Kai Havertz withdrawing from the Germany squad due to a knee injury and Bukayo Saka suffering a potential injury while playing for England.
