Mon Oct 14 23:02:59 UTC 2024: ## Vientos Blasts Grand Slam, Mets Take Early Lead in Game 2 Against Dodgers
**LOS ANGELES** – Mark Vientos, the Mets’ breakout postseason star, returned to form in a big way on Monday. After a couple of quiet games, Vientos crushed a grand slam in the second inning of Game 2 of the National League Championship Series, giving the Mets a 6-0 lead over the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers intentionally walked Francisco Lindor, who had broken their record-tying 33-inning scoreless streak with a leadoff homer in the first inning, to load the bases with two outs. Vientos then battled back from a 1-2 count to work a full count against Dodgers reliever Landon Knack, before sending the ninth pitch – a 95.1 mph fastball – soaring over the right-center-field wall. The homer, which traveled an estimated 391 feet, was Vientos’ third in this postseason.
This was the third grand slam in Mets postseason history, and the club became the 13th to hit at least two grand slams in the same postseason.
The 24-year-old Vientos now shares the team lead in home runs (three) with Pete Alonso and leads the team in RBIs (11) during the playoffs. His explosive performance put the Mets in a strong position early in Game 2, setting the stage for a potential series-shifting victory.
