Mon Oct 14 18:40:00 UTC 2024: ## Utah’s Cam Rising Out Indefinitely with Leg Injury, True Freshman Isaac Wilson to Start

Salt Lake City, UT – Utah Utes quarterback Cam Rising will be sidelined indefinitely after suffering a lower-leg injury in Friday’s loss to Arizona State, head coach Kyle Whittingham announced Monday. Rising, who returned from a hand injury only to be hurt again, will be replaced by true freshman Isaac Wilson, the brother of NFL quarterback Zach Wilson.

Rising’s injury is the latest in a series of setbacks for the 25-year-old quarterback, who has been plagued by injuries throughout his career. He suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in 2020, a concussion in the 2021 Rose Bowl, and a serious knee injury in the 2022 Rose Bowl that forced him to miss the entire 2023 season.

Whittingham hinted at the possibility that Rising could have another year of eligibility, but emphasized that it’s still unclear if that will happen.

“Now that we’re in the situation that we’re in, that’s a possibility,” Whittingham said. “We’ll have to explore that in detail with the compliance department. And I’m not even sure Cam would be interested in going that route. He’s got a lot to think about, and so [he needs] to just take a step back right now and let them get this most recent injury thoroughly diagnosed.”

Wilson, a four-star prospect, has impressed in limited action this season, completing 68 of 122 passes for 830 yards, six touchdowns, and seven interceptions. The Utes (4-2, 1-2 Big 12) have won two of Wilson’s three starts.
